I know it has been one million years since we sent out a newsletter, but we are alive and still doing the things. We just got back from the Old School Bluegrass Camp (we went as campers) and it was an amazing time for music and people and team-building! We stayed at Fort Onion (and also up super late jamming every night):

We are still doing Banjo Church every week on Youtube and Facebook - Sundays at 11 AM, ET. We post a Google Slides document with the charts, we talk to you all in the chat, we play a bunch of songs together - it's the perfect amount of social interaction for a bunch of introverts sometimes. Folks tune in while cooking and cleaning and gardening, also, which gives off weekly-radio-show vibes in the best way.

We're also working on a couple new full-length albums, both of which are full of brand new music. The practice schedule is a work of administrative genius, let me tell you. People keep taking vacations and having lives.

It's been a good long time since you've heard from us; it's been a weird time for everyone, us included! We've had to cancel most of our live shows for the summer, so we haven't had a heck of a lot going on!

If you miss us, the duo version of the band (and sometimes the trio version) have been doing weekly livestreams on Sunday mornings every week, at 11 AM! We play some of our regular repertoire, with a larger-than-usual serving of gospel music. We started out calling it the Gospel Brunch stream, but folks started calling it Banjo Church, and it stuck!

So come join us for some chit-chat, some gospel music, and a healthy helping of irreverence. You can find the stream on our Facebook page, or on our Youtube channel. You can also check out previous streams, if you've been missing out. :)

We've also actually got a real live in-person show coming up! The duo will be playing as part of the upcoming Schneider Creek Porch Party, at the Schneider Haus in Kitchener on September 19th! Many other groups will be playing on various porches in Kitchener, so check out the Schneider Creek Porch Party website for details!

We have our usual two - the Grand Trunk Saloon on the first Wednesday of the month and Seven Shores Cafe on the second Sunday - and we're back to Durham's Garafraxa Café (where we had literally the best time in the spring) on December 20th. We're working out some fun MULTIMEDIA stuff too - projecting lyrics, choreographed Walk-Off-the-Earth style bass playing, all manner of thrilling developments as well as releasing all our recorded Christmas music (and a new single) to streaming services! Oh man!

We've been working on a few brand new originals thanks to Dave and Esther; if you turn up to a show, you'll be hearing those soon enough, alongside some extremely cool covers that we're getting ready to release into the wild.
Where We've Been

Here we are, most of the way through the summer, and showing no signs of slowing down yet. We've played some cool locations, with more coming up, and in our off time, we're working on lots of new and very cool rep.

We had a great time playing at Templin Gardens in Fergus! One member of the audience (Thanks Charley!) drew this amazing portrait of the band:

What We're Working On

We've decided to start trying a new thing where we send out a download of a demo for a new song we're working on with the newsletter. This means that all you excellent people get to hear what we're working on before anyone else! These might be originals that we're still fleshing out, or covers that we're in the process of learning. It'll be a surprise!

This time, for our inaugural demo sharing, we've got a brand spanking new original: As Good a Time as Any, written by Esther, and performed in Kayleigh's very own living room.

Have an excellent rest of your summer! See you soon. :)

In case you didn't catch it at the time, we released a full length album called Earthly Trials back in April, and we're real proud of it. Definitely check it out if you haven't already!

Just this last week Kayleigh was away at the Old School Bluegrass Camp, out in Picton. It was a big week full of jams and concerts and classes and good old fashioned music-making. She took over the band's social media for the week to share the goings on, so check out Instagram for the highlights from that adventure.

The Next Little While...

In the next few weeks we've got lots of shows coming up. Take a look and see if there are any in your neighbourhood. :)

These are the first we've been able to make since our lineup changed and we became a quintet, and we're so happy with how they came out! A huge thanks goes out to Manish, Jessica, Kai, and Abhi for all their help to make it happen. We really couldn't have done it without them.

We've played the first Wednesday of every month at the Grand Trunk Saloon for a long time now, so it was the obvious choice to record this new set of videos. It's also no coincidence that the Grand Trunk has delicious biscuits. Our first video is of an old time song we've been inserting into the middle of the Zombie Love Song for a long time. This one is called How Many Biscuits Can You Eat? Take a look and let us know what you think!

We wrote this song called Long Winter Blues a couple of years ago, and have been pulling it out during the darkest winter months ever since. It's sort of a John Prine flavoured look at some of the mundane tortures of long Canadian winters. This year we decided to record a studio version and release it as a single, accompanied by a video!

We take a walk through some of the dreariest parts of winter in this song, we hope you like it.

We have a bunch more on the way, but the first one we've got for you right now is a little trio of tunes we affectionately call The Trainwreck. Check it out above!

And finally the foggy future: Keep an eye out for more videos soon, we'll post all over the social medias and whatnot I promise. We're also writing the next full length, full-band album! We're all very excited for this, but patience is key here my friends. As a Galt native, I could not be more happy and excited. We're playing seven times over the course of the weekend, but as the festival is FREE (what!), and makes some of its money from the sale of programs, I'm not supposed to share exactly what times. HOWEVER, if you come and hang out, there are many great acts to be heard and things to do, and you are pretty much guaranteed to catch us if you stay for a 3-4 hour block of time.
I highly recommend you do this.

This is also our first set of shows with Stuart Cybulskie, our new bass fiddle player. We are very excited to have him with us!
